It was a foggy, wet and windy day around Loch Laggan, much worse than forecast, and with transport problems - frustrating but not of our making - delaying the start for some, most people decided to summit one or two of the Munros of the Creag Meagaidh circuit before retiring to the pub.
Some groups took the gradually rising path through Coire Ardair towards 'the Window', the rocky slope leading to a bealach between Creag Meagaidh and Stob Poite Coire Ardair, before turning off left to the former or right to the latter peak.
From Stob Poite Coire Ardair it was a trudge along the ridge in horizontal rain to Carn Liath.
Another group aimed directly for Carn Liath, the nearest Munro to the car park. The initial part of this path is sketchy and wet at the best of times.
The ascent of Carn Liath is a steady grind on occasionally boggy ground.
As so often happens, once committed to descending the weather began to improve.
Despite the blue skies back at the car park, the spectacular views for which Coire Ardair and the Creag Meagaidh circuit are justly known would have to wait for another day.
